PAT Testing - Are you breaking UK law?

In the UK, the Law demands that employers or "Duty Holders" (including business owners and landlords) ensure portable appliances are safe. However, each year, approximately a quarter of all serious electrical accidents have resulted from the use of unsuitable, poorly maintained, or defective appliances.

In many cases, these type of accidents can result in injury, prosecution, litigation or invalid insurance unless you can demonstrate that you have taken every reasonable precaution to ensure that your electrical items are safe. The recommended method to demonstrate that you have taken these precautions is through PAT Testing.

PAT Testing (or portable appliance testing) is the regular visual inspection and testing of all electrical equipment that is connected to electrical sockets via a plug. PAT is preventative maintenance, it helps to reduce the risk of electric shock, burns and faults which could cause fire, or explosion where electricity is a source of ignition.

TestSafe Limited, who are based in Burton on Trent in Staffordshire, United Kingdom are recognised experts in the field of PAT testing and offer a professional and competitive service. Mr Phil Plummer, a director of TestSafe said "Many companies are unknowingly putting their staff and visitors at risk and so we are always happy to offer friendly help and advice over the phone or at the premises of the business". Around 1000 electrical accidents at work are reported in the UK every year. PAT Testing can help you to ensure that it doesn't happen to your company!
